A Banner of Belonging: Celebrating Our Community in Box Hill
We’re so excited to share something truly special with you—our new community art banner, now brightening the Blue Activation Pod in Box Hill! This isn’t just any banner; it’s a beautiful expression of who we are, created together by the people who call Whitehorse home.
The banner was lovingly designed by local artist June Chen, but the magic truly happened during the Spring Festival, where the community brought it to life with colour. From tiny babies under six months old to elders in their 70s, everyone had a hand in creating this masterpiece. It’s more than art, it’s the heart of our community, a celebration of love for this place and for each other.
Emblazoned with the message “Together We Grow,” the banner reflects our shared journey as a community. It’s a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity needed to navigate challenges while celebrating the vibrant spirit of Box Hill. As we look to Market Street and other spaces, this message encourages us to build on past successes, reintroducing initiatives that celebrate community involvement and reflect the unique character of our home.
When you see the banner, take a moment to read the story behind it. You’ll learn why it’s here, how it was made, and the amazing individuals who contributed to its creation. We hope it inspires you to feel connected to this place and proud of what we’ve accomplished together.
This project is what placemaking is all about, transforming public spaces into places that reflect the heart and soul of the community. And this banner? It’s a little piece of us all, flying proudly in the middle of Box Hill, reminding everyone that we are here, we belong, and together we grow.
Next time you’re in Box Hill, stop by the Blue Activation Pod and see our banner up close. It’s colourful, bold, and entirely us. Let’s celebrate what we’ve created and continue to grow as a community, one step at a time.
